For a few winter seasons, I’ve been loving the long winter coat from afar. It looked so pretty, but so did my grandmother when she wore it. So, I put it in the pile of trends that would never come to be for me; harem pants, peplum tops, gladiator sandals…
But you know what? After 30 years in Ohio, a girl gets tired of her ass freezing off. Time to put this trend in the OMG I LOVE IT column.
Long Tie Waist Parka, size XXL, Old Navy
Navy Fair Isle Knit Hat (Mens), American Eagle
Plaid Fur Lined Boots, Target
That coat not only looks warm and cozy, it looks great on you. As a Michigander I feel your pain when it comes to freezing your ass off, I’ve worn longer coats for years and will never, ever go back the waist length. Trust me our rears thank us for it.
I truly had NO idea what I was missing, or how big of a deal it was. Being warm is AMAZING.
Being warm = 1,000,000 happy points. You make this coat look adorable.
You look fab! I love it. It’s always nice when one’s ass is not freezing off :)
Adorable!
You look great… As always!
For years I never wore much of a winter coat, mainly because I was too large to find one that fit ( and didn’t make me look like the Michelin man). But after losing a shit load of weight, I was finally able to buy myself a decent warm jacket . And since I live in Canada , it’s something I needed. Next winter I’m splurging and going the long down style- this girl wants her warmth!
For a moment I thought you’d bought the same one from Lands End that I did. Covering the butt rocks! Especially up here in frozen ice storm Toronto.
Just bought a longer slightly puffy coat for this winter (in central Ohio), loving it!
I am jealous that you rock skinny jeans, I haven’t worked up the courage for those yet! :)
Love!! I have a lot of junk in the trunk to cover up!!
Dude, the long winter coat has come a loooooong way. The waist tie makes it much more feminine! You are adorbs as always.
That is super cute on you. I think the key is the tie at the waist. I’m loving it. If I hadn’t just bought a new (short, but warm) winter coat for our freezing Idaho winters I’d totally be looking for something like that.
My husband, for years, has told me that if I had more than a sliver of Cherokee in me, my name would be Princess Chilly Cheeks. Every night I crawl into bed my ass is frozen and it takes hours to thaw after a day of Northern Illinois outdoor activities. Good for you to choosing comfort (although you’re the queen of proving comfortable can look fabulous too!) I couldn’t live without a long coat.
Jessica Simpson’s line makes some beautiful coats. I have a mid-thigh grey wool one that I absolutely love and it covers all the junk in my trunk with style!
I live in California where we have only had one week of cold weather. I was given a long wool coat and I LOVE it. Now it just needs to get cold. I do not think mine looks nearly as cute as you do. I love your look. I don’t know that I would give plaid boots a second look and look at you, you are rocking them. Love the entire look! You are an inspiration!!!
This looks SO stylish on you, I love it! Darn – now that I’m in Costa Rica, I won’t have a chance to wear anything like this…. lol
I didn’t have an actual coat until I was 23 and had to start walking to work from the train. Texas winters mostly consist of running from the house to the car while swearing inventively about the cold.
I’ve just stumbled upon your blog recently and I have to say I LOVE IT. Thanks for always being awesome and making me laugh and feel better about myself. Also, I just moved to Ohio 2 years ago and I have to say that you make it a way cooler place to live!
Girl, I’ve lived in Ohio for over 15 years. For the last few years I’ve wanted to splurge and buy an adorable fancy petty coat, like I’m walking the streets of New York in any American movie. But after these crazy snowstorms we’ve had up in Cleveland this winter, I truly could care less about trying to look cute lol. I pulled out my oversized puffy coat and giant snow boots. You definitely make winter look enjoyable. If I had bought that petty coat I wanted, I would have pneumonia by now. Puffy coats forever!!
