I firmly believe that I became a parent before my husband.

It wasn’t because he didn’t want to be, or because I was better at it than him, it’s because when I was pregnant, and I lived day in and day out with that little person inside of me, moving around and hiccuping and kicking the crap out of my vital organs, it’s existance was more real for me than it was for him.

Up until our first son crowed, this whole baby/fatherhood thing was all hypothetical for him. And after seeing his disinterest in researching strollers or agonizing over bumpers, I’d be lying I said I wasn’t a wee bit scared that he was going to be a horrific dad.

But, then they handed him Jude, just born and all warm and squinty. In that instant, I stopped seeing him as this cute guy I married who played video games all day and had me lay out his clothes for work, but rather, an actual, real-life parent.

And then it happened again.

And again.

And soon, I look through my lens and see this entirely new man, who’s completely smitten with his kids, no matter what football game is on or how exhausted he is after work.

And I fall more in love with him every day.

I have pictures of so many of these moments, I forget they are there until I am digging through online albums for a picture of me where I look somewhat thin and attractive, and boom, my heart gets all squishy and lovey dovey, and suddenly I forget that he didn’t take the garbage out for the ka-jillionth time and now there’s fruit flies everywhere, because oh yeah, he adores us.

I have partnered with KODAK to help promote KODAK Free Print Week. I have been compensated for my time, which includes writing about my one of my most favorite photos. However my opinions, as always, are entirely my own and I am not paid to publish positive commentary.
