The radio show would be great if there wasn’t the background music… that’s all I can hear. Please.

Meredith March 7, 2011 at 4:29 pm

Thanks for the suggestion! We will make sure not to have it in the next show.

Carrie March 7, 2011 at 9:58 am

This is so fun!

If you want to talk about zoloft and my lack of sex drive, that would be great!

Meredith March 7, 2011 at 4:30 pm

Good conversation suggestion for the next show!

I am not on Zoloft, but somehow I sometimes lack the drive. I think mine comes from dishes, laundry, and toddlers. Tehy should make girl viagra. Maybe they do! I’ll have to ask.

While mood issues alone can affect your libido, the treatments, unfortunately can do the same. The SSRI class of mood medications (zoloft, paxil, prozac, celexa, lexapro) can all cause some problems with libido or orgasm. Wellbutrin and some other classes cause the least amount. There is some evidence that Folate (folic acid) replacement can help with sexual dysfunction caused by these mood meds.

Awesome! I like that this Dr. hates the BMI. I am so sick of my Wii fit telling me that I am overweight. My weight is fine, it’s the stupid chart that doesn’t account for me being big-boned!

Meredith March 7, 2011 at 4:28 pm

I recently went from really obese to just sort of obese. I think I look good, so the BMI chart can take a hike!

ooh, I don’t know if I agree with the “they’re real doctors!” claim, given that Dr. Phil *was* a psychologist (not a medical doctor) and is no longer licensed…

Meredith March 7, 2011 at 4:26 pm

I really cannot stand Dr. Phil. Brittany loves him for potty training his kids. But his bald head and judgy-ness make me puke a little.

I had heard that about him as well.

Meredith March 7, 2011 at 4:27 pm

HER kids! Potty training her kids. Brittnay does not care that Dr. Phil potty trained his own kids.

Daisy March 7, 2011 at 1:58 pm

Can’t wait to listen later tonight!! Many thanks to Dr. Curvy!

tena March 7, 2011 at 2:05 pm

This was entertaining- however, I am now afraid that I am the dangerous kind of fat and need to find Mere’s dr.

Brittany March 7, 2011 at 2:13 pm

Wine fat? Me too.

Meredith March 7, 2011 at 4:25 pm

I am so wine fat. Also, the Adipex is awesome. I clean my house like no other when I am on it.

As a lawyer who does FDA law I can’t say I agree with OTC diet drugs (sadly unregulated…..) but to each their own. Totally agree with Dr. Curvy that fad diets are not a way to live your life. Can he talk about vitamins that he recommends or warns patients to stay away from. (For instance, fish oil or regular one-a-day versus a pre-natal….)

Stephen Camacho April 12, 2011 at 7:10 am

Fish oil has been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and has the beneficial antioxidant fats.
As far as vitamins go . . . prenatal vitamins have vitamins and minerals in a ratio that is beneficial in pregnancy, as opposed to a Women’s complete vitamin which may have much more ingredients. I ask all my dieting and exercising patients to take a complete vitamin – not a prenatal to replace nutrients that they are losing from their diet. If you have a very balanced diet then any excess vitamins you get from a pill just makes expensive urine . . . Check the ingredients: some vitamins are made with FISH, others SOY, etc . . .

I’m in Australia, and we don’t have Adipex, we have it’s sister Duromine. I lost weight like crazy when I was on it, but that was several years and a few kilos ago. Thanks for the information re: the BMI. That rocked and was so glad to hear it from a DR that the BMI sucks. This confirms years of my suspcions!

Hi what can i do about the fat in the inside of my knees.

thank you for your time
Michelle

While there is no such thing really as spot fat reduction, toning up certain body areas can help with “saggy and soft” body parts. Leg raises are great for the thighs and knees. Steer away from knee extensions and knee curls if you already have knee problems because they put more strain on the joint. Instead do leg lifts with the knee straight. I’m sure you’ve seen theses exercises, when sitting or standing (with or without bands or weights) and the leg is exercised in four directions, to the side, front, back, and crossing the middle. If you don’t have bands, do the exercises on the ground against gravity. if its too hard to “press the leg” then start by just holding it up against gravity for a count of 25 seconds or so. When that is easy, then press or use bands or weights.
Varicose veins usually come from blood pooling in the lower extremities from gravity and being sedentary – sitting all day, standing in one place for long hours. So the preventative measures are moving around! So every hour if you can, do some squats, knee raises, lunges etc for just a minute or two to squeeze all that pooled blood back into the circulation. The first thing the vascular surgeons will tell you is to wear support hose/stockings.
