There are lots of things that I like about my body. For example, I think I have nice legs and can get away with short skirts. I’m not a size zero and I have learned how to dress my curves through much trial and error. I mean I once wore red pleather pants while I sang in a talent show for God’s sake!
However, I don’t particularly like how my arms look bare. You will never catch me going sleeveless, which presents a problem every summer. Luckily, I’ve picked up a few fashion tricks to use to keep your arms covered while not passing out from heat exhaustion.
1. Short Sleeve Cardigans
I can’t tell you just how many of these I own. They are a lifesaver to put over sleeveless shirts and dresses. Cardigans are very versatile and come in several fabrics, shapes and styles.

I can’t show off my shoulders in the office (which, other than that a few other rules is pretty casual) so I”m always looking for great finds to wear to work. Thanks!
Love, love, love those dresses! So cute and summery!
I wish I could turn this article into one about bucking the trend of fat girls covering their arms and feeling hot all summer.
Guess what? Your arms are the size they are if they are in a sleeve or not.
I recently decided I had a right to bare arms when it’s stifling hot and it was one of the most liberating things I’ve ever done. I wore a pretty spaghetti string dress and felt (and looked) gorgeous and more importantly_appropriately_dressed for a very hot day.
You know what? No one died or passed out because I have my arms uncovered…and I FELT GREAT!
Stop worrying about showing your arms. Stop worrying about your body and wear what the hell you want.
If it’s really hot I will go sleeveless even though I don’t like my arms that much but I love that some of the sleeved options Maya gives are longer sleeves. I hate hate hate cap sleeves, those make me really uncomfortable.
Cap sleeves always hit my arms at just the right spot to make them look like sausages bursting from their casings! I’m pleased by these suggestions – I was just thinking today that I need some dresses and shirts that are appropriate for teaching and these fit the bill!
THIS. I always thought I had to keep my arms covered (for what? to suit somebody’s arbitrary notion of what was attractive?) and finally realized that’s silly. My body is my body, and it doesn’t matter what size I am. I have the right to take up whatever space I need to.
Although these are good suggestions if you do want to wear a cardigan/shrug/sleeved dress!
I’m glad to see some of the tops look like they are getting longer. I wear sleeveless things but I like these as well, but I often find that the cut is too short! I think designers think all curvy women are 5’3.
