Our Favorite Sports Bras

Whether you’re petite up top or well-endowed, like yours truly, it’s important to support your breasts. A good sports bra is particularly crucial, as that’s when you’re moving hard and gravity is working against you. Once those ligaments stretch, they’re stretched for good! Or bad, as the case may be.

But never fear! We’ve got you and your girls covered, supported and good to go no matter the intensity of your workout.

Here are some of our favorite sports bras.

1. C9 by Champion, Target, $14.99 – $16.99

This bra is a budget-friendly option, available in a multitude of colors. It’s probably best for those in smaller cups, but it’s worked for other larger-cupped gals I know, too.

2. Alexis by Moving Comfort, $34.99

For smaller cups, this bra has it all — padding that wicks sweat instead of collecting it, and adjustable straps for an ideal fit.

3. Fiona by Moving Comfort, $26-$46

A big-busted girl dreams about a bra like this. It’s perfect for high-impact activities and offers so much support. It has a back closure like a traditional bra, and powerful yet comfortable velcro to adjust the straps accordingly. While it can be a bit of a splurge, it’s worth its weight in gold. I tend to find these on sale on Amazon quite often, too, so it’s not so painful on your bottom line.

4. Lululemon Ta-ta Tamer, $58

Another great find for the well-endowed, this bra lives up to its name. It tames your ta-tas, as promised. You can also wear the straps crossed or straight, and offers support from the bottom, sides and top without looking matronly. And you can ask any Lululemon customer about the line’s value. Chances are they’re hardcore fans who’ll gladly sing its praises.

5. Enell, $64-66

This bra may not look pretty, but sometimes function trumps fashion. Larger cup sizes will appreciate the superior support, especially during the most rigorous of workouts.

What are your personal favorites?

I am “well endowed” and love, love, love the Fiona for my very intense, very high-impact workouts. Worth every penny.

Nanette June 8, 2012 at 12:57 pm

Agreed! Totally worth it!

Champion makes an underwire that I LOVE. I just bought my third one, first one post this baby (who turns one next week). They last a good long time and they keep ‘em separated.
I also got a Moving Comfort underwire (Maia) but the size was marked wrong, so I’m returning it. I plan however to get it in the right size since it seems perfect, just too big for the shrinking girls.

I’ll have to check out the Champion underwire!

Champion is a good line, but here’s a flaw I see in just about every sports bra I’ve ever bought: Anything metallic rusts.

Now, I wash my bra fairly regularly, but it’s as if the manufacturers aren’t aware that lots of sweat will eat away at things like clasps and zippers that are made of metal. Invariably, clasps like on traditional bras break and then end up being sticking-up shards of metal. My current bra is awesome — I only buy ones with zippers down the front now — but the bottom of the (otherwise plastic) zipper no longer opens or closes without great effort, so I’m having to partially unzip and pull it over my head.

Sometimes I wonder just how rigorous the testing is on these things.

Interesting! I haven’t had that issue w/ the clasps on my Moving Comfort Fiona bras, and some of them I’ve had for more than a year. I’ll keep an eye on them, though.

I use a Moving Comfort bra… the Maya I think. It is fantastic. I’m large busted and it is by far the best I’ve ever worn.

Nanette June 8, 2012 at 12:59 pm

I’ll have to check that one out! Love their Fiona bra, so not surprised to hear their other bras are awesome.

Lululemon Flow Y bra is fab now that I’m less well-endowed than I was before baby. I’m a C cup, and it’s the exact amount of support I need for high impact activities, plus they’re super cute. I ran in just shorts and a Flow Y yesterday, and wasn’t worried that my boobies were jiggling around in the breeze for all of traffic-kind to see.

Nanette June 8, 2012 at 12:59 pm

I must get myself to a Luluelemon store ASAP.

I have the Moving Comfort Fiona. In two colors because I love it THAT much.

Nanette June 8, 2012 at 12:58 pm

I have three and would love to pick up a couple more! Soooo worth it!

kellye June 8, 2012 at 11:06 am

#1 is my least favorite bra on the planet! It may work well for smaller busts, but I’ve always been at least a C cup and it’s god-awful.

I’ve always wanted to treat myself to the Lulu bra… however most (all! ha who am I kidding) of my exercise is yoga, and I find that a “traditional” bra that’s wire-free works just fine. Thankfully so, because I was tired of trying on a trillion sports bras and none of them working (either smashing my front and making it hurt, or those darn racerback designs creating so much tension on my shoulders).

I’m in the lucky category of ladies in the F+ realm so, sadly, anything stretchy will not work for me. My goal is for them to not move, but mostly I will settle for them to not fly up into my face and knock me unconscious. I typically wear the Goddess 5056 or a Shock Absorber. I want to try the Panache 5021, but the underwire intimidates me.

I am a 38G and wear the Wacoal underwire sports bra. Zero jiggle, and it smooshes just enough without being uncomfortable. It also has moisture-wicking fabric. I bought one when I started taking golf lessons so that I could actually swing a club, and it makes a huge difference. It is interesting in that it looks like it is inside-out, but it comes in white, black and beige (not fun, but a nice selection for larger cup sizes) and up to 40G.

I’m a 38DD & the Fioina is what I call my “bulletproof” bra. I love it!! It’s the only sports bra I’ve found that can control “the girls” & it has saved my back & shoulders. The velcro straps are awesome & it’s super comfy.

Rhi June 8, 2012 at 2:50 pm

A great option for nursing mamas is the Three Reasons Bra at Title Nine. It’s not technically a nursing bra, but the straps velcro open and shut. One negative, however, is that it doesn’t come larger than a DD.

K June 8, 2012 at 7:47 pm

How timely! My “girls” are just big enough that I can’t get away with exercising (or bouncing down the stairs) without support, and my current sports bra is just old enough that I have to layer it with a regular shirt to be comfortable. I like the look of the Champion up top, so I guess I will swing by Target when I get my act together to go shop for new workout gear.

Emmie June 8, 2012 at 8:48 pm

My Enell bras completely changed the way I work out. Well-endowed and bounce-free? Yes, please!

kate June 9, 2012 at 8:04 am

AGREED! The Enell bra allowed me to run for the first time since puberty!

SaSa July 29, 2012 at 8:11 pm

Totally agree about Enell – able to run and play tennis both. No movement whatsoever- and I almost feel like ordering one a size larger to wear for “comfort” – I feel like this one redistributes the weight of my boobs away from my shoulders and is so comfy…

Daisy June 8, 2012 at 8:52 pm

The Ta-Ta tamer is next on my list to purchase!

Erin June 9, 2012 at 12:42 am

Thanks so much for these selections! I’ve recently discovered that the best sports bra I’ve found (for a woman with ample assets) was discontinued and I can’t find it anywhere. I’m going to check out the Fiona.

Maureen June 10, 2012 at 10:36 am

I LOVE my Maia sports bra from Moving Comfort. I bought it a month or 2 ago and it’s the first time in my 31 years that I’ve been able to wear only 1 sports bra! I did have to buy it in a smaller size…I am a 40DD in regular bras, but I needed a 38DD in the Maia.

heidi August 23, 2012 at 2:41 pm

I am…well…a 36H.
the idea that a $40 bra would seem like a splurge…I wish. I wish I could own a bra that cost only $40.
I’m buying one now. I hope…I hope…I hope…
