Metabolism- A Mom’s Ultimate Sacrifice

Everyone has their own reasons losing weight is difficult for them. From stress, to medical conditions, to just having difficulty finding the time to work out.

My biggest challenge is my kids.

An obvious reason; 100lbs gained and sometimes lost from five pregnancies.  That’s a hard deficit to make up.

Then, there is the mommy diet.  The gravitational pull that forces me to eat leftover McNuggets.

I can’t, in good conscience, throw away a perfectly good half eaten grilled cheese. And if there are any less than 4 cookies left in a package, I feel obligated to eat them, to avoid a potential fight.

Being a mom is tough.  Being a mom with a slow metabolism is tougher.

As I’ve been making changes towards a healthier lifestyle, the kids have begun to feel the impact.  More vegetables served with meals, less treats offered, and more nights of walking as opposed to watching TV.  They’re thrilled with the changes, let me tell you.

Just when I thought I might have a coup on my hands,I opened my Mother’s Day gift…

Maybe this lifestyle change is taking root, putting us all on the right track.

Or not…

I think my metabolism is confused.

Haha, ok you made me laugh- but I’m super impressed with your attitude of moving your entire family to a healthier lifestyle with evening walks and more veggies!

Ha! This is so like my life. One day we are hardcore about working out and the next day my husband comes home with 10 boxes of Little Debbies and pizzas! I think that it is great that you are trying to get your whole family into a healthier lifestyle. I am all for that.

One of the most helpful mantras I’ve found for my weight loss efforts is “You are not a trashcan”. This applies as much to leftover kids food as it does to the half of them meal left at the restaurant that I’m not actually hungry for. That stuff should go in the trash (guilt-inducing though it may be) and I am not a trashcan.
