CNN’s blog, eatocracy, claims to have reviewed several boxed wines, and they are reporting that there are some that are actually good.

We need to try these ourselves just to be sure.

I’ve had the Bota box and it is pretty good. No, it’s not going to fool anyone that it’s a $100 bottle of wine, but it is good to have in the fridge for the nights after work when you just need a drink or 2.

I have had this boxed wine. It is quite good. My favorite is Black Box. But I recently got the new Bota Box and liked it. Of course, then I got myself knocked up so it’s sitting there sadly unused in my fridge. Anybody want to come over??

But seriously, I rarely drink more than a glass so I like being able to drink it whenever without worrying about killing off an entire bottle I won’t finish.

I agree, Black Box is really, really good.

After a move I was crying around about finding the “black box” — the special box full of important things like TV remotes and cords, etc. My husband went out and brought home the Black Box of wine. It was a gesture that said “here’s your black box, now shut up!”

Bully on him. It was shockingly tasty.

mmmm……boxed wine. My mother-in-law will be all over it. She’s a professional boxed wine drinker.

I’ve had a number of brands of boxed wine that were very good. Bota is my standby and about as low as I go — anything priced less than it ($16-20 depending on sales, store, etc) hasn’t been any good. By the same token, the boxes over $20 aren’t that much better. In my experience, the people who complain about boxed wine either (a) drink Franzia or (b) haven’t had decent boxed wine. I’ve served people Bota and they’ve had no idea it came from a box. Another benefit to Bota: you can take it out of the box and toss it in the cooler for a picnic!
