Refreshing Warm Weather Cocktails: Beer Margaritas

When it comes to refreshing summer drinks, I’m willing to try almost anything.  They are one of my favorite food groups. And yes, in my life, summery alcoholic beverages are a food group.  They land right above ice cream based pies and right below grilled steaks.

So when I heard about a drink that combined two of my favorites, Mexican beer and Margaritas, I immediately knew I’d found a winner.

As Spring kicks into gear and summer approaches, add this beer margarita recipe beauty to your collection.  Believe me, you won’t regret it.

Beer Margaritas

1 lime, cut into 8 wedges
1/4 cup coarse salt
2 (12-ounce) bottles your favorite beer, chilled (I use Corona, regular, not light, but that’s just me)
1/2 cup frozen concentrate limeade, thawed
1/2 cup chilled tequila
Ice cubes

Rub lime wedges around rims of 4 margarita glasses. Dip rims into salt to coat lightly. In a medium pitcher, combine beer, limeade, and tequila. Fill prepared glasses with ice, then with margarita mixture. Garnish with remaining lime wedges. Serve immediately.

Margaritas are my FAVORITE cocktail. Beer is my husband’s. This sounds like bliss for warm summer days and nights. But I’ll have to wait until September…

:0( Being pregnant during the summer is the worst. And I’ve somehow managed to do it all three times! Doh.

It IS so good! And all the ingredients are super easy to keep on hand, so you can make them at the drop of a hat!

This article made me think of the dos rita. It’s a frozen margarita with a Dos Equis inside it. It’s becoming more and more popular here in Texas. Two of my favorite beverages in one! Pretty yummy.

I am typically not a fan of the blended margarita, but that looks insanely good.

There’s a restaurant in Houston that does this except with a frozen margarita! They bring you a giant frozen margarita with a beer (of your choice, I go corona light) tipped upside down in it. As you drink your margarita down, the beer slowly goes into the glass, mixing the two. DELICIOUS!!!

Now I need to come to Houston!

This would explain why I don’t get sick drinking beer with Tequilla shots. It looks heavenly. How many calories in this sucker I wonder?

These are the best things ever! My girlfriends and I have been drinking them at our get togethers for years.

Years ago we would use the tiny can of (Minute Maid) frozen limeade. Dump into blender, fill can with tequila dump it in, fill can with beer dump it in. Add ice to blender and whizz away. YUM! Also, adding a tablespoon, or so, of sugar to your mix helps the freezing/slushy effect (I learned that from my bartender mama).
