Beach Hair : Not Just for Summer. Homemade Sea Salt Spray

Just because summertime is almost done, doesn’t mean your laid-back beach hair needs to be packed away with the flip flops and sundresses. Want to know a little beauty secret? Sea salt sprays are perfect for  creating loose, curly, beautifully bendy beach hair.

Guess what? Sea salt spray is super easy (and cheap) to make on your own!

What you will need:

1 8oz or larger spray bottle (found in the beauty isle of any grocery store)

8 oz. warm filtered or distilled water

1 tbsp. sea salt (I use the finest I can find, it dissolves the easiest)

1/2 tsp. conditioner

1/2 tsp. gel (I use my everyday “curl amplifier” product)

A few drops coconut essential oil (mostly for that beach fragrance)
sea salt hair spray ingredients

How To:

Mix all ingredients together in a small mixing bowl.  If you’re finding your conditioner or gel is having a hard time dissolving, feel free to microwave it for a few seconds to soften it up.

Once all ingredients are dissolved, transfer into spray bottle.

I spray my sea salt spray in my hair while it’s still damp, and then let it air dry. I’m also a shower-every-other-day kind of girl, and I find spraying sea salt spray into my already dirty hair and some good old scrunching go a long way.

Variations:

This recipe is not one-size-fits all by any means. Depending on your hair’s thickness, texture and the desired effect, the above recipe can be tweaked a few different ways

- add a few drops of Tea Tree oil if your scalp is already oily. Tea Tree oil will not weigh your hair down or make it additionally oily.

- add more sea salt if you hair is heavy, thick or oily. The more sea salt you use, the dryer and “beachier” it will become.

- experiment with different essential oils. Essential oils will soften your hair just a bit, create shine, and also add fragrance. Consider Rosemary if you’re a brunette, or chamomile if you’re a blond, as it will enhance your color!

This recipe is an absolute must-try for gals with naturally curly, wavy, or bendy hair.

If you’re lucky enough to live by the ocean, go ahead, bottle that stuff up!

Let us know if you try it, we would LOVE to hear what you thought! We know, once you try it, you’ll never go back!

I guess sticking my head out of the car window when Patrick is driving won’t get me the same look.

I have never tried anything like this, store bought or homemade. I think my hair would take to it though! I love the beach look!

Thanks for this!
