There’s really no logical reason for us lay people to be excited for the entertainment awards season. Think about it. In my very un-scientific estimation, 99.4% of the population have no stake whatsoever in the results of the movie and television award shows, yet those of us who are pop culture addicts go insane-crazy for them. Is it the wishful thinking that it could be us one day up on stage in a designer gown with all the world relishing in our talent? Or maybe it’s the few hours where we step out of our reality and into the surreal show of flash and glitter and awe of Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet that gets us to tune in?
This Sunday, however, I personally couldn’t care less about the glitz and glamor of the Golden Globes 2013 because all of my attention will be set squarely on Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. The hosting duo are two of the funniest people alive.
It was Liz Lemon, Tina Fey’s character on 30 Rock, who once said the lines, “Lovers…oh, that word bums me out unless it’s between meat and pizza,” and “One time I laughed at a blind guy eating spaghetti! Sometimes I pee in the shower if I’m really tired! I saw my grandparents making love once and I didn’t leave right away!” It’s a comedic genius that can make that happen.
Them together is a match made in television hosting heaven. Remember them as the SNL Weekend Update hosts? Perfection.
And in 2011 when all of the Best Actress in a Television Comedy nominees took to the stage for an impromptu pageant crowning? That was all Amy Poehler’s idea.

We’ll be at home on Sunday night, live-tweeting wearing Depends while we watch these two incredibly talented, beautiful, funny ladies do us proud.

We expect great things, Poehler and Fey. Or at least do a better job than we expect Seth MacFarlane to do for the Oscars this year.
