This post contains SPOILERS for the April POPSUGAR Box. Do not read if you want to be surprised.

POPSUGAR round 3.

Cue the WTF trombones.

This is my third month with the POPSUGAR subscription service, and February and March left me positively giddy. And then April came, and I am like…. the hell?

Popsugar April

Inside the box:

  • Alter Eco Dark Quinoa Chocolate Bar. I hate both dark chocolate and health, so this was a meh from me.
  • Shashi New Nugget Bracelet. Ok, I am sorta on a bracelet binge, so this would have been awesome, had it fit, which it kinda did but it was tiny. Also I made these in Girl Scouts.
  • Kai Perfume Oil. It smells good, reminds me of Grass from The Gap.
  • Tatcha Petal Beauty Papers. Blotting papers I will toss in my purse and probably totally use a lot.
  • Four-In-One-Reusable Dry-Cleaning Bag. Wow. Since I get exactly nothing dry cleaned, and barely have matching hangers, this bag should come in handy never. Unless I need a body bag.

Overall, yeah, not a fan this month, dude. Aside from the blotting papers, occasional wearing the perfume, and tossing the bracelet on at the next Jamboree, I’m not feeling any of this box. Here’s to hoping May is bad ass and less… quinoa-y.

I was severely disappointed yesterday when I opened mine as well, except for the Kai fragrance, which I am now obsessed with.

I would’ve been super bummed had that been my first box. Now I don’t know if I want to click on the button and finalize my order.

I am in the same boat. As it stands, I think my bf would kill me if more random shit showed up in my house anyway.

I was totally disappointed with this month’s box. The dark chocolate OK with me, but that giant bag seemed like nothing more than a space-filler! Personally, I’d rather have another workout video that I may/may not use…

After Feb and March boxes – my first two – the April box was a huge let down… Now I need to decide if I want to renew for three more months. Plus the summer box is coming up. I saw that it will include a pair of Nichole Richie sunglasses but that doesn’t necessarily make me want to pay for the special box.

    • Joy says

I saw that also! I did a google search and those are pretty pricey glasses so I think that’s why they previewed them, but $100 for a potential dud box seems a little wacky…..just saying :)

  5. Jennifer says

This was my first box and what a disappointment!! The last two boxes you posted on were great. Hopefully next month will improve!

  6. Johanna says

Bummer. Mine will be waiting for me when I get home and now I know I will be disappointed. The March box was great… Here’s hoping May is much much better than April.

  7. DeltaJuliet says

Ditto for me…first box and I was SO BUMMED. A garment bag? Seriously? I was so excited after seeing your February and March boxes. But at least I’m not the only one who was dissappointed. I thought it was just me lol
    The bracelet is tiny, too.

Next month will make it or break it. Bring it Popsugar!

Funny two if my FAV things in this bag …. Kai- I wear it daily during the spring…. I LOVE Gardenia…..it was created by Gaye Straza Rappaport, who wanted to capture the aroma of her vacations in Hawaii. It has a huge celebrity following. The notes are gardenia, jasmine, tuberose, and lily.

And the quinoa and dark chocolate bar it delish –
Constant stock of them at our home since my husband found it about two months ago…. Tastes like a Nestlé Crunch bar but not as sweet….

Just got my first box this month and was underwhelmed. Oh, well….here’s hoping May will rock it!

    • Kristin says

Birchbox started out ok, but I cancelled after a year….Truth be told, it got crappy after about 5 months, but I kept thinking “next month will be better” – it never got better. :( My neighbor gets glossybox and she seems to like it, but from what she’s showed me, it just makes me think of a more expensive version of Birchbox. Too many little sample size packets (one time use) of serums and facial rejuvinators and crap like that – not worth the $$ imo. I subscribe to ipsy (formerly glambag) and I have been pretty happy with it. It’s $10 a month like Birchbox but they actually put things I like in the boxes (last month they had a sample of juice beauty facial hydration spray that’s become my favorite thing ever and I’ve actually used every day this month.) Ipsy actually seems to get better with each box unlike Birchbox and now Popsugar :( that start off great and then get worse and worse each month….

The only thing that garment bag will possibly be used for is a laundry bag should I ever find myself in a place where I have to go to a laundry mat…or my mom’s house…so I don’t have to flash the whole world my “unmentionables” in my basket…otherwise I totally agree that I hope May is way better…

  11. Joy says

I was also disappointed although I like the bracelet. That’s pretty much it. The garment bag is just ugh!

  12. Kristine says

I was disappointed too. Also, does the Kai perfume come in different scents? I used to love Grass by Gap, but don’t think mine smells anything like that. I’d love to have one that smells like Grass!

  13. Jess says

Quinoa delivered to my house? That’s the opposite of what I want to see in my mail. It’s supposed to be fun stuff I want – not healthy stuff that I need.

Perhaps if I wash the quinoa bar down with chocolate milk it will even out.

  14. Doreen says

Loved the chocolate, my husband said the perfume reminded him of his grandma and my teenage stepson asked who I needed to bury in the body bag. Here’s to hoping next month is better!

  15. says

I was actually pretty happy with it, but I really needed a garment bag for this coming up weekend so it worked well for me, I love dark chocolate so the Quinoa bar wasn’t a bummer either. I do hope that may is better but I’m not unhappy at all with Aprils

  16. Heather says

I was let down by the box too. The bracelet is TINY. I had a tough time getting it on and gave it to my 4 year old. Perfect for her. I do like dark chocolate so I am okay with the bar. Doubtful I will use the blotting tissues. I think the dry cleaning bag might come in handy as a dirty clothes bag for travelling…maybe? Otherwise it will likely get trashed.

Love there perfume oil. Totally my favorite item this month. I really like travel size scents.

  17. Kristin says

I am SO bummed this month! The bracelet is admittedly growing on me, but I’m just gonna have to perma-wear it cause I had to force it on over my fat hand and now I can’t get it off… The perfume smells like my grandma – not in a good way. I do use blotting tissues every day, but I can buy them for $3 for 100 at Target or Wal-Mart. The garment bag is pretty much useless, as I dryclean exactly zero items in my wardrobe. The chocolate – meh. Bottom line is, I’ve been raving about PopSugar to ALL my friends and had this been the month they all decided to sign up, I would feel like I owed them all $35. Let’s just say, May’s box better kick some serious ass….

  18. RachelRoo says

Boo, boo, double boo! I just signed up and my first box is waiting for me at home. I was looking so forward to it! Now…not so much. :(

  19. Christina says

I completely agree. This was my second box – I had higher expectations after the March box, and am disappointed. I will eat the chocolate – because, chocolate, and I will use the blotting papers, because its already 9o here. I didn’t love the scent of the perfume, but maybe I will give it another try. I hope next months is better, or I probably won’t renew my subscription. :(

  20. MadMary says

Well, I like this box, the chocolate is very good, the bracelet fits me just fine. I wish they had left the pink Popsugar off of the dry cleaner bag, so that my husband would feel more comfortable using it. Still up in the air about the perfume, it smell nice at first on me, but then gets a little soapy smelling

  21. Misty says

February was my first box – and oh my God did I love it.
March, I got the box and was like – wow, this is pretty stupid.
Yesterday? I was like, I spent HOW MUCH money and this crap???

  22. Kristine says

I got my first box yesterday. I love the bracelet, it’s absolutely my style, and just the right amount of sparkle for perma-wear, which are all good things, because I don’t think I could get this fucker off if I tried.

I’m about to start my period any day now, so the quinoa chocolate evaporated in about 30 seconds.

The perfume is nice once it wears down a bit.

And I’m not positive I’ll ever use the garment bag. Might give it to my sister who constantly has her husband’s clothes at the dry cleaners.

All in all…still better than my last Birchbox.

  23. Karen says

I decided to join after seeing what you got in February and March. My 1st box was April. I was a little disappointed too. I am sooo hoping next month is better.

  24. ann says

Loved some of my previous Popsugar boxes. Subscribed for a year. This one – has to be one of the worst EVER. I even bought annual subscriptions for others – slightly embaressed that this is their bday and every holiday gift………………………………………

  25. says

Ok, I have been avoiding this post as I was patiently waiting for my Popsugar box to come, until last night. To my horror I see that my box was “delivered” last Monday. I am horrified and quite sad that someone (I suspect the mail lady) stole my Popsugar box! It took my two hours to fully accept that the box is gone and that someone took it (bleeping mail lady). I live in a house, literally the last house on the left at the end of the dead end. WTH!? I am still sad even though you were unimpressed with your April box. Whoa is me. I just had to whine to someone I knew would understand. I will be staking out my mailbox next month to make sure I get my goodies! Operation “Treat Yo Self” is underway.
