So you read Fifty Shades of Grey. You had lots of sex…with yourself and maybe others. And now you have no idea what the hell to do with yourself.
You are in luck, because I’m no quitter, and once I plowed through the Fifty trilogy, I plowed through some more, and have some really porntastic recommendations to keep you all hot and bothered and feeling awkward in public reading situations.
Rock Me, Cherrie Lynn
This was my first post-Fifty book, and ladies, it did not disappoint. Sure, the author’s name is a stripper name, but who cares. If I wrote about throbbing wieners all day, I’d make up a cracked-out name, too.
Pros: This book does sex way better than Fifty Shades, way hotter and way better described. Plus, the girl is way less annoying.
Cons: You’re about to spend an hour googling genital piercings.
Unleashed, Cherrie Lynn
Rock Me was so good, I decided to give another Cherrie Lynn novel a go, and yeah…equally as hot.
Pros: It took me two chapters to realize the characters in this book were related to the characters in Rock Me, which was awesome. Also, the female lead in this book? Awesome. At Last.
Cons: It was far too short.
Bared to You: A Crossfire Novel, Sylvia Day
Ok, here’s the thing. I just read this book after my friend Angie telling me how awesome and similar to Fifty Shades it was. This book wasn’t similar to Fifty, it was better. It was the way Fifty Shades should have been written. You know, well and with a general comprehension of grammar and sentence structure.
Pros: Too many to list, but this story line is extremely similar to Fifty Shades, without the Twilight subtext. The characters are better, the descriptions are better, the vagina words are better.
Cons: What Angie didn’t tell me was, this book was book one of a series. A series that is NOT RELEASED YET, DAMMIT. I am now left with blue balls until book two drops later this year.
The Marriage Bargain, Jennifer Probst
I’m actually not done with this book yet. I bought it out of delayed airline desperation. I needed something to keep busy with while facing a 4-5 hour delay yesterday, so I got this because it was cheap and seemed somewhat interesting. I hated the first chapter, and if I wasn’t reading it through Kindle, I would have thrown it across the airport. But then….yeah, I’m 172 pages in and totally hooked.
Pros: This book seems to have a different take on sex book characters. No more virgin girl meets domineering rich guy thing. I mean, I’m not saying the plot is reinventing the wheel here, but it’s a nice break form the norm.
Cons: The first chapter. Good God it was irritating. But once you get through it, and agree to accept this whole thing is even plausible, it gets better.
I have not read 50 Shades and don’t really care to… but I might take a crack at one of your recommendations out of curiosity. Just HOW awkward is it reading them in public? Like, awkward because of looks from strangers when they see the cover, or awkward because the reader will have a hard time not shifting around in her jeans? :)
That’s what Kindles are for ;)
Exactly what Kindles are for!! I waited until I got mine to buy 50 Shades :)
Have you read any of Jennifer Crusie’s books? They’re a little more romance-y than erotica, but they are full of smart, real women and they are funny. I loved them! But I’ll be checking these out, too.
I have, she is great.
Awesome books, I love the hot guys!
THANK YOU! I have been so sad since I finished 50 Shades, in one week…. Keep posts like this coming!! :o)
Thanx for the recommendations. I just finished all the “50 shades” books and am ready to start another one now.
Your ability to give to the soccer mom community holds no bounds.
I’ve already passed this post on to many.
Thank you!
I read rock me. Loooved it. I also read fifty… All 3 in 3 days. So on to the next on your list… Yay porn… Err… Reading.
I have read all of these (and more.) I loved Rock Me and Unleashed. I read Bared to You first and think I blocked it out and forgot about all the unanswered questions in it due to PTSD. Love Unscripted is a good one, but still waiting on a second book also, so don’t go there. (Another Angie suggestion)- Slammed and Point of Retreat are ok, too. I have just started Making You Mine and so far, it’s pretty good.
It’s so funny that you wrote this now because just last night I googled the fuck out of “smut books”, “better than 50 shades”,” what to do after 50 shades” and I kept getting vampire and sci-fi based sex books, which I CANNOT stand.
A 27 yr old billionaire and 23 yr old virgin is as make-believe as my brain can handle!
Shayla Black and Maya Banks.
I haven’t read 50 Shades of Grey. From what I’ve heard, it’s very poorly written, and I was an editor, so I don’t know if I could handle that. But I’ve been reading erotica for years, so I’m glad 50 has vindicated my smut book obsession.
Will check out those authors. Thanks. And yes, what you’ve heard is 100% true… it is, indeed poorly written, to the point of distraction at times even. However, I credit it to me discovering the smut, so it’s not all bad.
Merci Beaucoup…..and that is all!!
Megan Hart. Start with Broken. Sexy book with an actual story. You’re welcome.
Try the Rough Rider’s series by Lorilei James. There are about 12 books. Hot modern day cowboys, and a couple cowgirls & the folks who love them in all sorts of ways. Guys who are nice decent guys in general and domineering in the bedroom, women of all shapes & ages from a 21 yr old virgin to a 45 year old divorcee & everything in between. Apart from the one virgin the women are all experienced in various amounts but all want to give in to the hot sexy men in their lives. They have good plots that fill out over the 12 books because the cowboys are all related. And most of them have a a decent amount of humor too. I highly recommend them.
Loved Rock Me & need to get Unleashed
Yes, the Rough Riders series is HOT! So is the T-FLAC series by Cherry Adair. For very different reasons.
The RoughRiders series is fantastic! I have devoured the first 12 books (13 if you count Quinn & Libby’s short story) and cannot wait for the next one to come out!
Also, the Sinners series (only the first 2 are out) by Olivia Cunning.
Smart Bitches also came up with a reading list for post-Fifty, and it’s where I found Bared to You. (I thought BtY was better in some ways, yes, but lacking much of a build-up and also, A TOTAL FIFTY RIP-OFF.)
http://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/blog/book-list-for-wpix-11-viewers
One more thing: If these have no “Inner Goddess” or British classics reading “Subconscious” chiming in, I will be so damned happy!
NONE. I promise:)
THANK YOU. And I , in turn, bequeath to you: “Triple Play” and “My Pet” by B.J. Wane. Both into spanking etc – first one is a threesome :) Let Dirty Book Club commence.
Maya Banks and Shayla Black. If you want something with less graphic, but just as smokin hot, sex J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood. You’ll thank me.
I have The Marriage Bargain on my nook. I’m pretty sure I stopped reading after the first chapter…
I KNOW. It’s just the first chapter, I swear.
OK, I agree about the hotness of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. I’ve loved each one that I’ve read. But the names! THE NAMES!! I HATED THE NAMES!!! Also, there is the whole supernatural thing, so if someone doesn’t like sci-fi smut, then they should avoid it. I happen to enjoy almost all smut, so I thought it was great. I haven’t read 50 Shades of Grey, but I’m on the library wait list. I don’t know if it’s something I want to own, but it is totally something I want to read.
My problem with it was the slang they used. Umm, these guys are freaking 500 year old vampires. What’s with the gangslang???
Lol, Rachel, that never occurred to me until you mentioned it, but you are absolutely right! :)
May I suggest “Rock Hard” and “Backstage Pass” both by Olivia Cunning? Much better characters, WAY hotter sex, and fairly well written. I really like that I can get away with reading smut on my eReader without it a) lying around the house for my teenagers to encounter, b) anyone knowing what I’m reading and c) no embarrassment during purchase. Tech for the win! ;)
“Hearts in Darkness” by Laura Kaye. Two strangers get trapped in a dark elevator. If you liked “Dating in the Dark” which was a short-lived tv series then you will get this… well, except the book has sex. Just try to shut off the part of your brain that wants to obsess about how these people are trapped and neither character is having potty issues. It was quite sexy aside from that and served its purpose. :)
My husband thanks you for the book recommendations! I just finished Rock Me last night. I’m starting Unleashed tonight. Sounds like there is a third book coming that follows the sister of the Ross brothers.
Oh, yay! My husband is going to be so excited that he gets to have sex again! It’s been a bit dry since I finished 50.
I totally love the idea of an on-line Dirty Book Club! Let’s all read the same book and discuss, yes?
I loved Rock Me. Thanks for the suggestion! I am also tickled at how cheap they are and making my Kindle Fire live up to it’s name. Heh.
I’m going to shamelessly self promote here, but dude, I wish some people would give my books a chance. I think the sex scenes are hot (if I do say so) and the story line is WAY better than 50 shades. Plus, the first book is free this weekend on Kindle.
That being said my current guilty pleasure is Forbidden Pleasure by Lora Leigh. Wow.
I just searched you on my Kindle…which book are you talking about??? I’d love to check it out! :o)
Autumn Violets is the first one and it’s free on May 26th and 27th for download. Winter Jasmine is the second book. I will be launching book three soon!!
Thanks. I will download it for my next read!
If you are a member of Goodreads, you can go to the lists and there is a whole category about books like 50. A lot of them are Kindle and I have found some pretty good recommendations from those lists.
I haven’t read the 50’s books yet, but do have some fantastic read suggestions for you.
First: J.R. Ward Black Dagger Brotherhood series-there are 11 of them and OMG I promise you will not regret reading them at all. She also has a Fallen Angel series that is great. She wrote some books under the pen name Jessica Bird that you can find under that name but some are being re-released under J.R. Ward pretty much anything she has written-HOT!
Second: Lynsay Sands Argeneau Vampire Series, book 17 comes out later this summer with a couple anthologies that go along with the series. I have read all of them and they most definitely are a hot read.
Third: Jeaniene Frost Night Huntress series she has a few spin offs Night Huntress World series and the first of the Night Prince series comes out in June, all revolve around the same characters they are good, not as steamy as the the other two but hot in their own right and great reads!
I promise you won’t regret reading any of these I blow thru them in a matter of a few days because I can’t bare to put them down.
I am going to second the “Night Huntress” and “Night Huntress World” spin offs, I’ll also add “The Elder Races” series, which is a bit stranger, and may reference a “mushroom” once or twice, but super fast reads. Also The Charley Daniels series by Darynda White. So.Funny.
I am enjoying Rock Me, but is anyone else bothered by the fact they did it on a waterbed? That totally distracted me from the good stuff! I checked the copyright date just to make sure it wasn’t set in 1985. Ditto on googling genital piercings! While I talked my hubby into some 50 Shades situations, I don’t think he’ll go for any piercings! HA!
THANK YOU.
I was like, wait…a WATER BED? The fuck? Who has waterbeds in real life situations?
Strangely enough…my parents.
God. I just oog’d myself out.
Damn you! I haven’t read 50 Shades, but I did just get a sample of Rock Me, and then had to buy it after reading the sample.
My cheeks are still flushed.
And I want a tattoo.
(And by ‘damn you’ I mean thank you!)
I don’t really care about reading 50 Shades of Grey, but I want to read these.
Unfortunately, this whole first trimester thing has totally KILLED my sex drive…at least while I’m awake. Would the dreams resulting from these books be worthwhile?
I’m actually part of a Dirty Book club that we set up as a private group on FB. We trade trashy book recs and discuss all things related to them. We also get together every month or so to drink and discuss the stuff in person. I’ll second the J. R. Ward Black Dagger Brotherhood series. It’s a 10-book series about stupidly hot vampires, and there are more books to come. Must read. I would also recommend the Immortals After Dark series by Kresley Cole. She’s written at least 12 and she’s still going. This series covers all of the immortals – vampires, werewolves, and much more. Now, neither of these series are Pulitzer Prize winning literature, but they are entertaining, the stories all wind together, and they all…well…pay off. ;)
I love Kresley Cole. Her books are always so funny, yet the heros/heroines have moments of vulnerability, too. You should also check out Lara Adrian. She doesn’t have the humor of Kresley Cole, but her books are smokin hot.
I agree that Lynsay Sands, J.R. Ward and Jeaniene Frost have written some excellent books. You should also try Christine Feehan’s Dark Series. Old world immortals finding lifemates for a steamy good time! And if you like domineering men you should also read Jaid Black’s Viking series, super hot!!
I read Rock Me last night. Thanks for the reccomendation. Is anyone else unable to find an e-version of Bared to You?
HA! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00846REIS/?tag=sylvidaysensu-20
50 Shades of Grey is on my to read list but I’ll have to check out some others from your recommendations too. And I agree with the comments about “That’s what Kindles are for” ;)
Totally read 3 of the 4 suggestions! My kindle thinks I’m a dirty dirty girl after reading Fifty hehe
I LOVE LOVE LOVED Bared to You. I can’t wait until October when the next in the series comes out. I just downloaded Rock Me. Starting it now…I will probably be up all night reading now. Oh well! I saw it on the free list a few weeks ago and almost downloaded it then…I wish I had but atleast its not an expensive one! Thanks for the other suggestions!
Men get blue balls. WE get blue walls :)
If you are into threesomes (2 guys, 1 woman) Lora Leigh has a series, all the books start with Naughti (stupid spelling, I know). Most of them are decently written and seriously hot and sweaty.
Beautiful Disaster!
Whee! I can’t wait to try these. I thought Fifty was sooooo horribly written that I didn’t even read the others, but it did leave me wanting to read something like it. But better.
I would like to suggest “The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty” by Anne Rice. It puts Fifty Shades to SHAME. (and it’s a trilogy too)
Let me know what you think ….
I was wondering if anyone was going to mention these. I read them about 15 years ago. The are pretty hot.
Tara Buckley is also great if you like racy stuff :O)
2 words. Laurell Hamilton. http://www.laurellkhamilton.org/ and then be prepared for soaking wet panties and oh so dead batteries. Some of the most amazing group sex scenes ever, with wereanimals… and or Demi Gods. OMG!!!!!!!
I read Bared to You in about 4-5 hours. Super easy read. Not anywhere close to Fifty Shades! Annoyed I have to wait until Oct for the sequel!
Awesome, hilarious post. Can’t wait to read more of you
I’m on the second book FIFTY SHADES OF GREY THE DARKER SIDE !
I have never read a book (s) like this.
BUT ALL I CAN SAY TO EVERYONE IS : I WANT MYSELF A MR. GREY !
I would like one also!!! Hmmm any ideas on where we can find him?! Haha
Oh thank you do much for these posts!!! I had no idea what to do with myself after “fifty”….. Do you think there will be a fourth book?!?! I will be purchasing one of the above mentioned books to start reading… Finally a light at the end of the “Grey” tunnel!!! ;-)
I loved 50 shade read all 3 in 3 days, it was poorly written but who cares the structure wasn’t why I was reading it :) I agree with the Brotherhood of the Black Dagger books, my friend recommended them after I read 50 and I LOOOOOOVVED them read all 10 books and the insiders guide in 3 weeks! Fantastic books. Now that I need a new book too read I will be checking out the ones you suggested
Thanks so much for your recommendations. I made a nice long list to get me through the next few months. I loved 50 shades and Bared to you. I would also like to offer my recommendation to those of you who enjoy the paranormal as weel. Try the Fever Sieries.Karen Marie Moning. I thought it was a little slow getting started to set up the characters. But I became a big fan….
Thank you so much for all the book recommendations. I loved 50 Shades and can’t wait to start reading these books. I have read The Black Dagger books and love them. My husband is loving all the Reading I am doing. Thanks to this list, the fun will continue.
Okay so I took your suggestions to heart and have already read Rock Me and Unleashed which were both very good! Downloaded what I thought was the entire book of Bared to Me and it was only 40 pages I am DYING to read it since it stopped at a really really good part! And now I can’t find the full download anywhere =( where did you find it?
I downloaded it on Kindle. I would say download that, then Backstage Pass, then Rock Me.
Thanks so much =) I found it and finally got to read the entire thing and now the waiting has begun for the second book! But then again a friend of mine has a book blog and has given me the job of reading all the dirty books authors send her so I can review them…lots of smut on my nightstand at the moment!
Ugh I feel so depressed since I finished 50 last night. I read them over the weekend, got way too attached to the characters, especially Christian. [The gorgeous Scott Speedman played MY 50 in my head :) ] I feel like a damn wierdo for being sad that its over.
Regarding the writing, I completely agree. Very poorly written. She reuses the same adjectives and dialog a lot. She even used a few words that made me want to get a dictionary to prove it wasn’t a word. I enjoyed the inner goddess and subconcious, I pictured funny annoying overdramatic Tinkerbell types. Made me giggle. I did start to get annoyed by the amount of sex. That being said, none of the poor writing kept me from loooving the story and wanting more.
An AWESOME next read after Fifty….
The Realtors Series by Liz Crowe…
these books are engaging with a female character you can relate to…Floor Time, Sweat Equity and Closing Costs tells the story of Saran and Jack, Liz does a wonderful job developing the supporting characters who you will also develop a relationship with.

I loved 50 and Bared to You!! I read them all in record time, and cannot wait for the 2nd book. I just read Thoughtless and Effortless nad both have that 50 feel. Better written, love the main charecters. So far I still can’t get Christian and Kellan out of my head. Also read Beautiful Disaster, Travis is another iconic leading man. If you liked the 50 series, you will like Thoughtless & Effortless! I hope there is a book 3. I will be buying Rockstar immediately, thanks for the recs!!
Who wrote “Backstage Pass”?
