Today, for no logical explanation whatsoever, I took three kids, by myself, to Build-A-Bear for the first time ever. Let’s recap.
When you tell the kids we are going to Build-A-Bear, securing your spot as the most bad ass mom, probably ever.
After you spend four hours stuffing your bear and making wishes on hearts and shit, you take your fully dressed, officially birth certificated bear to the register, and the lady is all, $143 please.
When your kids are all, this is the best day of our whole entire lives!
After you get home, sit in your closet and accept the full extent of your actions.
When your husband comes home and is all, how did you let this happen!?
Pretty much.
We all do it at some point. At least you got it over with in one trip?
Yeah…my kids are somehow under the impression that only grandparents can take kids to Build-a-Bear. I’m not about to tell them they’re wrong.
We went yesterday for the first time and managed through creative parenting to only spend $21. Except when they rang me up they accidentally charged me $211. Geeze, she fixed it right away but yeah it’s a little like highway robbery in there.
I took my 18 month old since he won a gift card in a contest. He was all ‘dog’ and that settled that. Now if he wants to go when he is older, I can say he already went. And he has the naked 25 dollar dog to prove it. Victory!
Oh yes, pretty sure my kids will not have books their first semester in college because of that damn place.
Yup. Don’t have my own kids so I for a few years would borrow friends kids and gave them a day out with Aunt Trish. One year, 6 kids and each one wanted B-A-B. About killed my budget and I still whimper when I walk past.
OMG I laughed so hard. We don’t have kids yet and I still hate that place. I once thought it’d be a cute idea to get my then boyfriend (now husband) one of those things, and I hated just being inside of the store with all of it’s insanity! Stresses me out just to sit on the outside and watch parents being mauled to death by children and bear innards.
Pinned this for days when I need a good laugh (at your expense unfortunately).
Does that count for the American Girl store too?? Smh…
We had my daughter’s 4th birthday party there. Thinking about seven four-year-olds trying to decide on the perfect animal/outfit/name combination still drives me to drink and my daughter will be nine in a few months. However, by some freak miracle, taking 7 kids to Build-A-Bear was cheaper than taking 7 kids to Chuck E. Cheese and I didn’t have to endure any giant, creepy animatronic rats….
That, my friend, is incredibly accurate.
And thank you for forewarning those of us who have yet to venture there. I recently stumbled into a Justice and laughed at the cashier when she told me how much they wanted for a pair of shorts.
I took my four kiddo’s there.. one boy and three girls, the girls all got a BAB the didn’t want one, OMG holy SHit it was chaos. Never again. You got out cheap. I ended spending close to $300 for them. I told them that was it better treat them good!
Our son received a BAB when he was born 6 years ago. In the mail. All dressed and named and done. Little did I know what a gift this was to ME. I took him to the store when he was about 4 weeks old. Bought 2 outfits for the thing-a Navy Officer’s dress whites for his sister and Detroit Tiger gear. It has worn baseball gear for 4 straight years now, and sits on a shelf. Whenever we walk past the store and he asks to go I remind him he has one at home that he hasn’t touched in 4 years. Then I say a silent prayer to our friends who sent us the bear upon his birth.
Whew…I just have 2 boys who are in no way interested in building a bear. LOL I feel for you though…ugh!
$123.00 for a f**king Teddy Bear…Seriously??? I hope you built that bear from the movie Ted!
I am impressed with you! Lolol 3 to 1 and you managed to get out of there for under $200!! We were 2 to 2 and we spent $250…yeah ok so we had sucker on our forhead!
Oh god there’s one just opened in a shopping centre near us, I’ve never heard of.them.before. now I’m utterly terrified.
Oh man. This is comedy gold. You’re the only mom blog I follow….and this shit is exactly why.
Yeah, taking your kids to build a bear is just like shopping at whole foods… they take your whole paycheck!! You are a brave woman to go by yourself with 3 kiddos!!
I’ve brought my 2 boys in there a few times (maybe 5 in all) and I have never paid over $50 per visit. And that’s because I tell them either an animal, or an outfit for one they already have.
So, I’m a fun mom, but not a FUN mom, I guess.
I think that’s a great idea. We have actually never been there, ever. So I was so unwise as to how to handle it.
You’re either really brave, or totally insane. Or both!
Whoa! My boys are 5 and 6 and we’ve never ventured in there – although I’ve been considering it. Thanks for the warning…I think we won’t LOL
