I didn’t know much about it except someone said I had to read it. I started reading and couldn’t put it down – read the whole thing in one day. It’s addictive – even without sparkly vampires. Which was the last book I’d read in one sitting.
I read the entire series IN ONE DAY while I had the stomach flu last year. What can I say? I had a lot of time on my hands that day. And having bodily fluids coming out of various orifices is a good way to keep the kids out of your hair, too.
I’m about to cave, too.
I demand that you cave. Cave right now. (obviously I already did. I read all three books in 4-5 days)

Ohmygod! You are going to L-O-V-E these books! I picked up the first one about a year ago (having no clue what it was about) and I finished it in 12 hours….I was done with the rest of the series in 3 days. I am SOO excited for the movie to come out – it looks like they did an amazing job. And I agree with Carolyn Peeta can put a bun in my oven any day. I bet he’s really good at making said buns being the baker’s son and all……
When you are done you should go to YouTube and watch some of the fan videos – a lot of them are really good. Search “Katniss and Rue” and watch the first video that comes up – they did an amazing job!
Oh! I read that book last year when I bought it for my cousin as an Xmas gift and decided I should read it first before I give it to her…totally a lost cause as I immediately went out and bought the other two! They’re SO good!!! I’ve even got the Rock Star reading them right now and is is giddily gobbling them up! Have fun!

You will L-O-V-E these books! I am a pretty hard-core Twilight nerd and I have to say I like this series AS much (and maybe even a teensy-weensy bit more….) than Twilight. I read the first book in 12 hours and the whole series in less than 3 days. You get so emotionally attached to these characters that you’ll be sad when it’s over. I am beyond excited for the movie – it looks like they did an amazing job (Woody Harrelson as Haymitch is sooo perfect!) And I totally agree with Carolyn – Peeta can put a bun in my oven any day. I know, ugh…I have it on my Kindle waiting to be read… I’ll probably start it this week, too. I hope it’s as good as everyone has been telling me!!

Ohhhh Hotter and I loved that trilogy! The first one is amazing, the second might be even better…the third neither of us liked quite as much but definitely still worth reading!

You will love the series! Though I still wonder why it is aimed at young adults. There is some heavy stuff in there.

I think the fact that there are more serious themes are part of the reason that these books are so successful. Finally, a young adult series that asks its readers to really reflect and consider the repercussions of living in a dystopian society. What a far cry from the importance of having a boyfriend, or in other words, the central theme of Twilight. At least, its part of the reason I like them so much

I definitely agree with you. However, when a friend on FB told me some of the kids in her 4th grade class were reading it, I was a bit surprised. The book seems a little too mature for 9-10 year olds.
i want to read these books, but i have a book i plan to read here first: American Gods by Neil Gaiman. don’t know if i’ll get it started before the new year though lol i just finished jane eyre awhile back. getting classics in the ol’ noggin. gotta have SOMETHING in there. :/
I recently read America Gods. It’s a pretty good book, but it jumps around a lot. I almost quit reading it about halfway through. But I powered through it and I am glad I did.

You’re going to love them. I read all three in like two days. I haven’t talked to anyone yet who hasn’t loved them. AND the movie is coming out soon, so since the twilight series is almost complete, you’ll have new shirtless boys to look forward to.
This book kicks butt… you will have them all read in no time.
Just try not to judge the whole series from the third book. I like to pretend it stopped after Catching Fire, while it was still good. I can’t wait for the movie to come out!

OMG – these books are freaking amazing! Oldest son’s GF browbeat him ’til he read them – he devoured all three in 48 hours. Then they both harangued me until I read them. And I’m SO glad they did. I love those books more than I have words to express. I can’t wait to hear what you think about them!
By page 32 you will be (already are??) so sucked in we likely won’t hear from you until you have finished all 3. Enjoy!!!!!

I keep hearing about it… and everyone keeps telling me to read them, but I still haven’t. I don’t know what my holdup is except that I tend to do the opposite of what everyone tells me. I’m defiant like that. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on this.

Another GREAT YA book – it’s an indie author, Gwenn Wright – the book is Filter: the von Strassenberg Saga. It was really good, and her sequel is coming out soon. Check it out!
They are great books! Peeta is no Edward and since he’s not 107, and I’m old enough to be his mom, I totally felt creepy thinking he was hot. Anyhow, HG were the first books to break the endless re-reading of Twilight (sad but true). Enjoy it and then maybe move on to Percy Jackson, you’ll love that kid. He’s way sarcastic & hilarious.

Oh man…I’ve heard talk of this…Hunger Games…and I saw the movie preview when I went to see Breaking Dawn. I am still resisting everyone that says I need to read it…lol but I don’t know why. Curious to see what you think about it.

Started book 1 Tuesday night (I work full time and have had 3 finals this week) and I am already halfway through book 2…
It gave me nightmares the first night, but now I just stay up reading to curb THAT.

After seeing your FB post this morning, I asked my niece, who is a National Honors Senior if she’d read them. She said she knocked them out in a weekend and that the heroine was so badass she “didn’t even want to say Bella’s name in the same sentence.”
I am so into vamps right now, I’m having a hard time reading anything non-vamp, sparkly or not, I will <3 the Cullens, especially Edward, forever! (BTW, if you really think about it…and sadly, at 46, I HAVE, Bella was a vampire from the start: she sucked the joy & fun out of everything anyone planned for her; she practically sucked the life out of both Edward & Jacob….Wuss Vampire, but Vamp nonetheless. Again, more off-topic Twilightness, Bella did redeem herself by doing more than becoming Edward's equal by being the saving factor via her shield in the Epic Battle of Not Much But Some Lameass Talking.)
Anyhoo, should I be concerned that I am regressing in life when I have started to read more YA literature than the classics in which I majored?!? Bueller?
Ok here is the thing. I get it. I was so reluctant to read Hunger Games because I LOVED Twilight, and I didn’t want anything to take away from that.
I just finished the first book. It took me less than 12 hours. It was THAT amazing.
It doesn’t take away or add to Twilight, truly THAT different, but I’ll tell you, the romantic parts made me melt…a little bit more than the Bella Edward parts did. True story.
Read the book.
