If you asked me seven years ago what kind of parents we’d grow up to be, I’d have told you hopefully a mix of Lucy & Ricky Ricardo and Jo & Sam McGuire.
A touch of retro glam and good ‘ol fashioned husband and wife scheming to keep things lively? Check.
Quirky young parents who are a bit nerdy, who fumble their way through parenthood with humor and cute glasses? Check.
What kind of TV parents did you want to grow up to be?
I’ve always had a deep dark desire to be a mix of June cleaver and Morticia adams. Kick ass, get things done, in pale skinned beauty and calm aloofness kinda parent.
Oh man, channeling Morticia would be so theraputic for me. I’m so spazzy, I need that calm aloofness.
While not TV parents….have you ever seen The Easy A? Emma Stone’s parents in that movie? I want to be those parents when I have kids.
OMG DEFINITELY.
They are, hands down, some of the best movie parents EVER. I wish they would make a sequel entirely about them!
Yes! Them, totally!
Yes!!
I love, love, love those two!!
Ha, this was my answer, too! YES!
They seriously made the movie for me! They were awesome!!:)
The Keatons! Elyse and Steven were so cool.
the Keatons….. for sure
I am more like frazzled anal retentive losing her shit Mom
Me too! Oh how I would love to be that combo for June Cleaver and Morticia Adams though. Sigh……….
Movie – JoBeth Williams in Poltergeist. Totally Beast Mode getting those kids out that house.
I am torn between Dan and Roseanne Conner and the Huxtables.
I was a single mom until my daughter was nine and I always thought I would be exactly like Lorelai Gilmore.
The Huxtables for sure!!!!!!! Dad is a doctor, mom is a lawyer, but they still had time for their kiddos, and time to dance together and make out!
I think we are the Seavers, and I like it. Mom is sweet and endearing, Dad is dorky but loving, both are cheesey and kind of dorky and they adore their kids, who are far from perfect.
Also I have outdated hair. And I think Alan Thicke was handsome back in the day.
I thought we’d be the Seavers but since my hubby and I didn’t make it in the long run, my significant other and I are a great deal like Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson in “Easy A” as our kiddos are older.
….edit to above ^^^^. Wanted ex-hubs and I to be like the Huxtables. Significant other and I are a fusion of the Huxtables and the “Easy A” Tucci & Clarkson.
Addams family. ^^
While they are both single parents… In my very overactive imagination, we will be kind of like Lorelei Gilmore and Richard Castle… you know… if they were to meet, fall in love, get married and become foster parents. (We are about to become foster parents…) I love that both of those characters trusted their kids to be smart and make good decisions and just, in general, treated them like intelligent human beings. They seem to sincerely LIKE their kids.
I said this in my comment below before I realized that I could reply directly. Doh!
Good luck with the fostering! We just finished our first foster case in April. It was intense and difficult, but so very worth it. We built a strong relationship with the mother and still see her and the kids regularly. We hope to be a part of their lives as they grow.
Thanks!!
I totally wanted to be a combination of Jessie Katsopolis (oober-cool) and Maggie Seaver (journalist extroidonnaire) …sometimes i feel like peg bundy (as in shoving chocolate in my face, jonsing for soap opera drama).
Dude parenting is tough.
I think my dream parenting would have to be a mix of these TV parents: My So Called Life, Adams Family and Family Ties.
Unfortunately reality in our family is not quite like any of those characters. I’m more Mommy Dearest in the sense that out of nowhere, I’ll go all bat-ass crazy and then a few minutes later, I’m back to a so-called normal self all the while wondering why I freaked out in the first place and how my daughter must think I’ve completely lost my marbles…again! :P
You know, and OMG this going to sound hokey, but I never wanted to be like TV parents. I always wanted to be like my mom, fierce, loyal, loving to a fault, and imperfect.
My huz and I area definitely Claire and Phil Dunphy from Modern Family. Even he admits it.
Good luck @Susannah! We just finished our first case with foster kids. It was difficult and intense but so worth it.
Thanks!!
I’m afraid it’s too late to choose; I think we’ve become Lois and Hal on Malcolm in the Middle–except I’m Hal and my hubby is Lois.
Though not a show… I wanted to be Mr & Mrs Jack Houseman , Frances “baby” ‘s parents. Several week long vacations at a posh resort. The father that helps with the only question being “is it illegal” , the blissfully unaware mother ( who stands her ground when needed)
They were beautiful!!
When I was married, I feel we parented like Jack & Norma Arnold from the wonder years! Except, my exhusband was only the rules maker, enforcer.. By the fear if god. I was the peacekeeper , at ALL costs.
Lastly, I adore Kitty & Red Foreman ( that 70’s Show) more than any parent! Ever!!
