How Does Andy Chino

by Brittany on August 30, 2012

in According to Andy, Fashion, lowercase b

Recently Lands’ End sent me a bunch of colored chinos to try and get me to embrace the whole LET’S WEAR COLOR ON OUR BOTTOMS thing. Ok fine, it worked.

But, they also sent along an extra pair for Mr. Gibbons, himself.

Let’s review how that went.

Hey Andy, they sent you pants!

They want to know how you “chino.”

I have no idea what that means.

You know, like how you wear yellow pants.

I don’t.

This was not going to be easy. To even get him into the pants, I had to make the following concessions:

1. No more trying to pop any of his zits.

2. Watch all the Jason Bourne movies with him and not roll my eyes once.

3. Play with his hair for 30 full minutes and without complaint. (Dude, he’s a weirdo.)

Alright fine, do you see what I do for you fashion!?

So, I disappeared into his closet for a good 20 minutes, and emerged for a two day long real life game of dress up.

Chino Day One: We had to meet up with friends at a fundraiser at a local boat club. I hate boats, but I distracted myself with how hot my husband looked. I love the layered shirt look this fall, so I did a navy polo under a lightweight pull over oatmeal sweater, which was perfect for an evening on the water. Did he initially scoff at me as I knelt down rolling his pants? Yes he did, but then I pushed him in front of a full length mirror, and was all, Andy you look so money and you don’t even know it, and he was like, yeah, ok, this looks kinda good actually. Chinos win.

Chino Day Two: Last night,  a couple of old friends come into town, and with babysitter secured, we were able to sneak out for dinner, drinks and catching up. This time, I layered a plaid button-up shirt under his favorite distressed navy hoodie, and ok fine, unrolled the pants. It was casual and colorful, and honestly, he would have totally forgot he was even wearing mustard pants, if not for the constant compliments he got all night from strangers. Chinos win.

So Andy, about those mustard pants…

Yeah, yeah. You were right. I was wrong. Now, play with my hair.

Andy is wearing the Men’s Plain Front Traditional Fit Chinos in Dijon.

Lands’ End provided the chinos for this post, I was not compensated for positive reviews and my opinions are my own… and Andy’s.

He chinos the dijon like a fucking CHAMP! Hip dad alert.

Brittany August 31, 2012 at 6:49 pm

Agree, I was like…you look shockingly hip right now dude!

Tara@DTKMMLC August 31, 2012 at 6:42 pm

I dig them. Especially the unrolled look. Well done.

Brittany August 31, 2012 at 6:51 pm

Think I do also. I am starting to love the color for fall. Consider me a changed woman.

Diana August 31, 2012 at 6:44 pm

If nothing else you gotta give the man mad props for being a good sport.

Brittany August 31, 2012 at 6:51 pm

Oh he totally was, and I played with his hair FOREVER and haven’t popped a back zit in DAYS.

Jeanette August 31, 2012 at 6:45 pm

Andy looks better in normal colored pants. You can see hes uncomfortable because his shoulders are hiked up to his eyeballs.

Tell Lands End that if they intend to continue their contract with the 2 of you that they need to send him normal colors only. No one, and I do mean No One looks good in mustard.

Andy, my hat is of for even tolerating these shenanigans.

Brittany August 31, 2012 at 6:53 pm

Honestly, I found it refreshing to not see him in a pair of distressed jeans, and he ended up not hating them, so that’s a plus.

Also, sidenote: unless he has a few beer sin him, he HATES picture taking and always poses about like that. Holidays are crazy fun times.

Amber August 31, 2012 at 7:24 pm

I have to agree. That is a pretty signature Andy stance and expression.

Brittany August 31, 2012 at 7:26 pm

Like, if his driver’s license photo had a sound button, it’d just be one long siggggghhhhhhhhh. HAHAHAHAHA.

thepsychobabble August 31, 2012 at 7:18 pm

Imma gonna go in with Jeannette on this one. I think they look slightly better in photo #2 as opposed to photo #1, but either way I think the mustard color was kind of a bust.
But. I don’t have to wear them OR look at them on the regular, so…

B – you are right, he looks hot! I think i can get my husband to wear them too,but like you, I’ll have to bargin . I’m pretty sure his will never be as G-rated as Andy’s – actually, I can’t even believe there wasn’t one R rated concession in there.

Brittany August 31, 2012 at 6:55 pm

Shocking right? I think we’re both too exhausted from being sick. I’d wear hypercolor pants at this point if it meant someone would rub Vicks on my chest and rub my back until I fall asleep.

Mecca August 31, 2012 at 7:01 pm

Hey perfect, I just so happen to be wearing hyper color pants!!!

Amanda August 31, 2012 at 7:02 pm

He rocked the mustard.

Kelly C August 31, 2012 at 7:05 pm

Ugh. The popped collar. I can’t stand it. Otherwise, he looks HANDSOME. Go Andy!

Nikki @ Styling You August 31, 2012 at 7:25 pm

Your man did better than mine. I raised the coloured pants suggestion on my blog this week and he said no way. Damn it. They look GOOD.

Carrie August 31, 2012 at 7:33 pm

I was just in New York for two and a half weeks for work and came home loving colored pants, because everyone and their mother was wearing them there. Even the men, so I think this looks great and it’s whats trendy right now.

My boyfriend likes the yellow and also really wants a blue pair.

Good work Andy- you look great!

Shelley August 31, 2012 at 7:41 pm

as much as I hate the pants… and I AM a fan of men in colored pants, he did rock them. But, I think I just hate mustard colored anything. Props to him for being a sport and a sweet hubby. I think he’d look FAB in maroon, green or a nice blue pair.

Wendy August 31, 2012 at 7:45 pm

I think he looks awesome but what really stood out is all the long sleeves and jacket…it was a moist 99 degrees here today….I can’t wait until we need jackets. I absolutely loved the colored chinos on you and Merideth.

Brittany August 31, 2012 at 7:47 pm

Thanks! THANKFULLY, we’ve had cooler air pushed up here from the hurricane, so while our mid days are warm, we are THANK GOD cooling off in the evenings, so we’ve all been happily sporting jeans and lightweight shorts.

It’s basically like Christmas for me!

Kelly August 31, 2012 at 8:16 pm

I could do with less collar pop, but overall it’s a win! The first one would never go over in my house, but the second is totally doable.

You should make Paper Doll Andys (basically one body + the Lands End Fall catalog)!

Jennifer August 31, 2012 at 8:30 pm

That would NEVER happen in my household, no matter the concessions. Husband would burn the mustard pants before they could touch his toes (and then burn the plaid and polo too). He doesn’t do trendy.

Sarah August 31, 2012 at 9:21 pm

Love the mustard. Love the rolled up look. Life is too short to wear blah colored pants all the time. It’s beyond awesome to embrace a little change, even if it is just our pants.

Adriane August 31, 2012 at 11:30 pm

I love chinos on men. Mustard color…. maybe not as much. But Andy looks BOSS. And btw, I LOVE for people to play with my hair. So I’m with Andy on that one………

Marcia September 1, 2012 at 8:47 am

My Hub’s wants to know if he needs to listen to Bieber now?

Brittany September 1, 2012 at 8:48 am

Um no. One Direction. Do you live under a rock!?

Connie September 1, 2012 at 11:50 am

OH. MY. HELL. I laughed so hard reading this post. Your husband is such a trooper! Mine would never have consented to a game of dress up – no matter how many promises I made him. In the end, Andy looked great!

Nikki Mohamed September 1, 2012 at 1:25 pm

I loved the mustard with the oatmeal pullover… but in the second
ensemble (I have issues using this word for men’s clothes because I’m
neither French nor pretentious. But I know that men hate the word
‘outfit’ when discussing their clothes.) I have to ask…Why flip-flops?

Miss-E September 1, 2012 at 1:42 pm

I personally like the mustard. My husband is pretty quirky, so he would probably like the colored pants, but I think he would like the second look better. He’s pretty picky about how his clothes fit, but will surprisingly wear a greased-stained shirt to work with no worries. After 9 years, I really can’t get a handle on his fashion (term loosely used) sense.

I like the first look (w/o popped collar), but could never get my guy in a pullover. He mostly wears what I call the “software engineer uniform” every day. SEUniform=khaki pants/cargos or jeans with short-sleeve plaid button-up. He even wears this in winter.

He likes Land’s End, so I will have to tell him about these. And I might have to get some chinos for myself.

Jodie (aka mummaducka) September 1, 2012 at 5:12 pm

Too funny, my hubby is siting here next to me and I clicked on the link from Nikki at styling you. All hubby can say is can’t she get him a decent pair of boots, instead of those japanese riding boots. Gotta tell you he is a very old fashioned Aussie bushie and says he would NEVER wear coloured pants, unless they are blue! I asked what about bright blue and he said NUP! Your man is BRAVE!!!!
Cheers, j

JustAMom September 3, 2012 at 11:40 pm
