I think it’s safe to say, that we can all collectively agree that Pee Wee’s Big Adventure was monumentally better than Big Top Pee Wee, for like, eleventy billion reasons not including egg salad sandwiches or Kris Kristofferson.
But, I can all say, in complete confidence, that to this day, Pee Wee’s Big Adventure freaks me the fuck out. Like, I have nightmares, and I’m thirty. Thirty year old nightmares are worse than ten year old nightmares, because thirty year olds are way more in tune with their mortality and know we could basically die any second, whether it be from murder or a creepy neighbor who wants to steal our bike because he’s a dick who needs a hobby.
The scene where the truck driver is really dead and her face turns into a ghost thing? Insomnia.
However…
this still makes me laugh hysterically.
And I am still looking for that giant dinosaur you can climb into and watch the sun rise from inside of it’s head. It’s on my life list.
That movie is one of my all-time favorites. Definitely some dark scenes. I think the ones with Francis in the pool are the scariest for me.

That movie weirds me out too. That big dinosaur is right here in California. On the way to palm springs. We drive by it everytime we go out there. But have yet to stop.
“I’ve seen better heads on boils!”
That movie is the basis for my whole blog. True story. I can quote the entire thing. My husband says that’s not something I should admit to people.
I stopped there a few times in high school on the way to Palm Springs. We never got to go in the t-rex, but we did go in the other dino’s tail.
Holy shit, the scene with the truck driver scared the hell out of me too! Could not sleep after seeing that. I had managed to block that from my adult memory….until now.
Crap. Looking forward to tonight’s sleep.
I just really liked how they used the pig pushing his snout up to the little door for it to open…that seemed so crazy at the time!
OMFG!! Large Marge scares the freaking crap out of me. And that laugh … now I’m going to have nightmares tonight.
I live about 40 minutes away from that dinosaur. Large Marge… I still have to close my eyes at that part.
THIS IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE MOVIE!!! EVERY scene is fantastic. Tim Burton RULES!!! I used to pause my VCR when Large Marge’s face came up so I could try to trace her (it never worked, but I tried several times). Yes, that’s how crazy I am about this movie. The first time I drove by the dinosaur park I about crapped myself when I realized what I was seeing. AAAAHHHH!!!! This really made me happy on a Monday morning. Thanks for reminding me about this little gem. TEQUILAAAAA!!!!

I live just a few exits from those dinosaurs. Since I moved here about 10 years ago, the dinosaurs have changed owners at least 3 times. Depending on the current owners, either the T-rex is off limits or you can go up there for a fee. I can’t remember if it was open last time I went by. The gift shop in the brontosaurus is your basic tourist trap, but still has some neat pictures and info inside. There is even an apartment above the gift shop that I know of at least one of the past owners used as his residence. Coolest apartment ever?
Pee Wee’s Big Adventure really IS one of the biggest nightmare inducing flicks of all time.
I’ve never seen this movie. I’ve never been happier about that than right now.
