I get it all the time, “what are you reading?”

Well, aside from the Taco bell menu, lately it’s been a mish-mash of humor and horny. My favorite combo.

Not only have I been reading it, I’ve been chatting about it, so before you get to my current reading list, check out the positively scandalous episodes of Last Call Brittany featuring two in the flesh erotic novelists, Alice Clayton and Tiffany Reisz, dishing vagina words, their biggest turn ons, and double penetration in the flesh!

The Mistress Files - Tiffany Reisz

The Mistress Files by Tiffany Reisz

I don’t often find myself in Tiffany Reisz’s books. Quite the contrary. Her Original Sinners series is a delightfully warped escape from my every day life. But, The Mistress Files, a novella chronicling the client profiles of my favorite dark haired dom, Nora, we finally got a chance to experience life on the other side of the flogger. Story after story, I saw pieces of myself in all of them. I HAVE THOSE ISSUES! I HAVE THOSE FEARS! OMG CAN I GIVE SOMEBODY MONEY SUPER FAST TO WHIP ME WHILE I TELL THEM ABOUT MY FEELINGS!? Because my therapist won’t do that. Like, I’ve asked. He barely lets me borrow his pen. With each chapter, I was left smiling… and ok fine kinda horny and desperately needing more friends who wear kilts. The Mistress Files was a much needed amuse bouche course to the July’s upcoming 4th book in the series, The Mistress. I’ve got a fever, Mz. Reisz. And the only cure is more flogger.

Wicked Beat Olivia Cunning

Wicked Beat by Olivia Cunning

Reading Wicked Beat was bitter sweet. I had missed the bad boys of the Sinners badly, but I also knew it was going to be the last book of the series, and I just loved them all so much, I wasn’t ready to let them go. Also, there was some apprehension because this book was centered on Eric Sticks, the drummer/professional other people having sex watcher of the band, and my desire to hang out with that guy came with a giant eye roll and a jug of hand sanitizer. But, aside from my overall ability to put a visual on Mr. Sticks (yeah, the Sinners on Tour website did nothing for me), I was genuinely surprised that by the second or third chapter, Eric had evolved from sleazy voyeur to my favorite Sinner to date. I don’t want the tour to end, but if it has to, it ended on the perfect note, I loved this book. Now, I can only hope for a future, MTV Unplugged Where Are They Now catch up book. Read this series, y’all.

Tangled Emma Chase

Tangled by Emma Chase

This is a quick read. I wasn’t entirely sure what I was getting into, but it can best be described as the Fifty Shades Trilogy (without mommy issues) or the Crossfire Trilogy (without brother issues), all rolled into one book. It isn’t a bad thing, it’s familiar and entertaining, and you get the closure in this book you would normally need to go through three books to get, otherwise. If you like reading about entitled men who’ve inherited high ranking positions at large corporations form their fathers that go on to meet feisty but well educated female underlings this book is for you. But there is a hook, and one that saved this book for me… it’s written from the man’s perspective. Sure, there were some cliches, but overall, it made it more entertaining.

dad is fat jim gaffigan

Dad is Fat by Jim Gaffigan

Oh I love daddies. I worked at a summer camp for a few years after college, and one week was devoted to a daddy/daughter program, and it was always my favorite week. The dads were so chill and aloof and wait, where’s my daughter again, she was just here, I swear!? I loved Dad is Fat the same way I loved You’re Not Doing It Right by Michel Ian Black. These men are funny. Hearing them talk about marriage and fatherhood is funny. I’ve seen Jim Gaffigan live three times (true story, I was 9 months pregnant each time, and went into labor within a week of seeing him. Just saying. He’s like a warlock or something.), and some of the jokes in this book were familiar to me. But once I got into it, his trademark routines subsided, and the funny observations of being a dad took off. They were funny because he’s funny, but they were funnier because they were true.

Down This Road Kelli Dawn

Down This Road by Kelli Dawn

Nothing makes me more happy than when my friends write books. Well, that’s not entirely true, I do get even happier when I get my hands on them and spend the next 24 hours devouring them because they are so good. I’m a country girl who came back to her hometown, so reading this book was like reading a part of my soul. I was Charlie. I was that girl making mistakes and fumbling about, and good God, I can’t wait for book two, and I swear to God Kelli, I’m not meeting you for margaritas and guac until your ass finishes it. THIS IS NOT A THREAT.

Sylvia Day Fans: If you’ve read Bared to You and Reflected in You, GOOD NEWS! The third book in the series, Entwined with You comes out tomorrow! Pre-order here!
