You know that smell? It’s chilly and windy and the air smells cold, like something fierce is coming?
I love winter. Not just for the carb-filled food and warm and fuzzy holidays, but for the tall boots, jeans, and a much needed break from crotch sweat. I can finally pull out all my absolute beauty and fashion favorites, and enjoy them in cool temperatures, with no sticking, clinging or irritated rubbing.
From head to toe, here are just a sample of my absolute winter must haves, no matter what size body you’re rocking this season.
(Mine is round and full of pies. Dammit, I love winter.)
I am so insanely in love with buffalo plaid. And leggings as pants. And leather wide calf boots. Seriously, this outfit is as comfortable as a pair of sweats but cute enough that people assume I actually did something with myself before I left the house. (I didn’t.) These black boots are pull-up boots, my very first pair. They are listed as extra wide calf, so I was expecting to feel dainty as hell in them. Not the case. They fit, just. So if your calves are bigger than 19.5 inches (measure while wearing the thickest pants you would wear with them), they won’t work for you. I am so thankful I was able to pull them up though, because they are cute as hell and I adore them.
My go-to style for winter is wearing things that make me feel small in their wake. I’ll show skin all over the place in the summer, but in the winter, if I’m not drowning in fabric, it simply won’t work. I typically do not like tunics, because I hate when things hang and catch on my butt. This sweater is technically a tunic, but really just fits like a giant cuddly sweater. I am also very into pairing brown boots with black tights and leggings. These suede boots are crazy cute, but like the Lumiani above, were a just fit for me. Thank you boot gods for helping me fit into these, take this sacrifice of one living chicken and Trident gum from the bottom of my purse.
Boobs, boobs, boobs. As you know, I love me some good boob support, and I’ve written about proper boob measurement in the past. I wanted to share two really fantastic bra finds with you, because my boobs are crazy excited right now. On the left is the Panache molded T-Shirt bra. It is my happy place. It isn’t sexy or scandalous, but I was really just looking for a super soft and comfy bra to wear under sweatshirts and laying around the house. Bingo. It’s so comfortable I could sleep in it. On the right, the Curvy Kate Daily Boost is the perfect answer to all the yummy cleavage I desire. So many large sized bras are full coverage, and that makes the sexy low cut shirts I live in very difficult to wear. The daily boost is low cut and perky, it’s my new go-to cami and V-neck bra.
Finally, I have a serious lash insecurity. They are short, curled and some are blonde. It’s a hot mess. I have tried extensions, and while I love them, I keep getting way too busy to keep up with them. So began the Great Mascara Hunt of 2014. I tried tons of mascaras. Tons. Yes, even the 3D fiber ones, no need to sell me on them, they just weren’t my jam. I wanted something easy and clean and fabulous ,and holy shit, ya’ll, I found it! I will officially be wearing Benefit’s They’re Real until the day I die. The right side of the photo is me pre-mascara, and the left side is me all lashed out with one coat of Benefit. The eye bags are completely natural, only God and lack of sleep can bless you with them, sorry. So, I fight them with an eye brightener, a technique I learned on the internet. Tarte Maracuja Eye Brightener is my favorite naked face trick, and you can see it on the left side of this photo only. I throw it on the inside corners of my eye with some mascara and lip gloss and I’m good to go. I bought the 8 oz. trial size, because adult make-up is pricey, and 2 months later, I still have plenty left!
